How To Avoid Fatigue At Your Standing Desk

Posted by on

Standing desks are designed to keep you focused, productive, and give you more energy. Although they will give you more energy than working at a standard desk, you will eventually get fatigued at a standing desk as well. If you’re just now starting at a standing desk, you definitely want to work your way up slowly. The goal is to turn this into a daily habit that you don’t even have to think about. Follow these guidelines if you want to maximize your standing desk time, while minimizing fatigue and pain.

Think About Your Posture

Slouching is the number one cause of back and neck pain for office workers. Even though you’re on the right track by using a standing desk, if you are standing improperly, you could be doing more harm than good. Proper posture is more important that most realize and it is especially important when you are using a standing desk. Slouching or hunching over the desk is likely going to hurt your back and decrease the effectiveness of the standing desk.

Wear Good Shoes

Those new dress shoes you bought might look great, but they aren’t going to be the most practical shoes while working at a standing desk. It’s ideal to wear comfy tennis shoes if you plan on standing for long periods of time. Consider keeping a pair under your desk, that way you can just change shoes and be on your way! Be sure to find shoes that fit you properly and that you are comfortable in.

Get an Anti-Fatigue Mat

Standing on the flat floor for a long period of time can increase your risk of varicose veins, circulatory problems, and other various health issues. We highly recommend investing in a cushioned anti-fatigue mat. These mats are designed to be incredibly comfortable and help relax your muscles and tendons. Trust us, you’re feet will thank you!

Move Positions

While long stints of sitting can be harmful to your health, so can long periods of standing. That is why it is really important that you choose a standing desk that allows you to adjust the height between a comfortable sitting or standing position. It is also really important to take a break and get your eyes off your work and get away from your desk. Remember to listen to your body! Be conscious of how long you are standing and how long you are sitting in order to find the perfect balance.

Using these tips will help you avoid getting fatigued and tired while working at your standing desk. Get up and move, take breaks, get the right shoes, and use a good anti-fatigue mat!
